King of Footwear Art Kobi Levi

King of Footwear Art Kobi Levi

Design and shoes have been Kobi Levis passion since his childhood in Tel Aviv, Israel. His first shoe designs were created during his high school days. They were made from cardboard back then. Following his passion, in 2001 he graduated from Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design, Jerusalem. Since his graduation Kobi worked as a freelance footwear designer. During this time Kobi learned the trade secrets of shoe development and craftsmanship. For his own leisure Kobi designed unique, creative and innovative shoe styles, which challenge the standard definitions of design, art and fashion to create a niche of their own. These footwear art creations were uploaded to a blog Kobi started in April 2010. Soon the blog took on a life of its own and reactions streamed in from all over the world. This over-night exposure brought Lady Gaga to use the design Double Boot in her Born this Way music video.

Worldwide attention and publications led to a growing demand for Kobis artistic styles. His email inbox filled almost overnight with thousands of requests from all over the world, asking where the unique shoes can be purchased. In July 2011 Kobi opened his studio in Tel Aviv and started to offer his original designs for sale. In the studio he creates, develops and produces limited editions from his designs. All pairs are made by hand from high-quality materials.

24FashionTV had the honor to sit down with the designer for an exclusive interview.

24FashionTV: When did you first realize you wanted to pursue a career as a fashion designer?

Kobi Levi: I was always fascinated with things around us, and was questioning why they look and were made the way they are, various things we use in our daily life. I was curious about how objects were designed as well as technically made to achieve both look and function. Fashion and accessories are the closest products we use, they represent us, we choose what to wear to reflect our personality, and they go with us wherever we go, so I guess that was what appealed to me to focus on.

What made you choose to design shoes specifically?

Shoes have a life with and without the body, I see shoes as a sculpture, an art piece that comes to life when worn, but can be admired on display as well. We can see its place on "us" as well, and this is why so many people are drawn to shoes. I was extremely curious how the intricate shapes of footwear were achieved as well, and the techniques are fascinating.

Where do you usually find creative inspiration for your shoe designs?

The same place where I got my curiosity to create our daily life, everything around us: objects, nature, animals, plants, media, architecture... Every aspect of life can be an inspiration when shown in a new light. An idea can "pop-out" from a conversation, a visual association, or just like that without knowing what brought it out, and I work with iconic, familiar images to show what I saw in my mind - a new point of view.

What is fashion to you?

As mentioned before, it is a "tool" for self-expression, we add to our own look, "design" ourselves to represent who we are. If we wear things that are not fit to our personality it will be like acting, wearing a costume, which is ok if this is what someone is choosing or as a profession.

How is working in fashion different today than from when you started out?

Things are getting faster and faster, and designs are being shown everywhere, especially online and through social media. It is great that it is easy for a designer to expose the work, on the other hand they are endless images all the time. It is, as always, important to find your original point of view, this is what will differentiate one from the general things. A unique and original approach is the key to an innovative creation.

What role do you think social media plays in fashion today?

Social media creates a direct conversation with people who follow my work, which is amazing! I can see people's comments and answer their inquiries, it is interesting to see what connects them to my work, and it is motivating to see how people are happy and expressing it when seeing my designs - very flattering!

What do you think about sustainable fashion? Should fashion be more sustainable?

Yes! Definitely! I think it starts with quantity, why produce tons of products if they will not be sold and end up just polluting the planet?! Reasonable quantities, according to need, are the first step, and environmentally friendly materials as well. I think buying less with better quality, which costs a bit more, is better than buying more things that will last a shorter time. We have fast fashion in our reality for a while now, its strong point is affordable items that are easy to purchase, which is an important thing to have as well, but I think it should be achieved with considering the environmental cost as well.

What is your favorite part about being a shoe designer?

The best part is having a good idea and seeing it being "born". The first time I saw a new design complete was an amazing feeling, I got addicted to it and I cannot stop!

How do you want women to feel when wearing your shoes?

They should feel amazing about themselves, the way they should in any case but with wearing footwear art they emphasize their uniqueness without hiding their look behind a costume. As said, the wearer makes the shoes feel natural and "make sense" as the personality can carry it.

What comes next for Kobi Levi?

Hopefully endless creativity... more and more designs, shows and collaborations.

24FashionTV had a chance to sit down with a winner of Mrs Russian America 2021, a 30-year-old Russian-born Ekaterina Koltunova who is an acting student living in Los Angeles.

24FashionTV: Were you shocked when you won Mrs Russian America?

Yes I was shocked and I was very happy. It was like a dream. I saw people were standing, applauding and cameras were flashing. It was unbelievable experience, and I am very grateful that I have had it.

24Fashion TV Ekaterina Koltunova mrs russian america 2021 1622010666 jpeg

Was it your first pageant?

Yes it was :-)

Were you nervous on stage?

Yes just a little, because the stage gave me an enormous adrenaline rush, and that definitely made me nervous.

Did you always want to be a model and win pageants?

I always wanted to be an actress, but I like modeling too, but I can say that I did not dream about being a model because I always thought that models should be very tall, and I am only 5 feet 6 inches. But now days fashion and views totally changed

What's next for you in your career?

I would like to continue pursuing my career as an actress and I would love to play in theater.

What role do you think social network plays in the modeling industry?

It plays a huge role cause now everything comes from internet.

Do you think having a large following on social media helps to find more modeling jobs?

Yes I do think so. It is sad, but mostly companies want to work with people who are famous, so thats why they can get more clients to their businesses. But I think when something goes from inside it will give you more values than just quantity.

What do you enjoy doing the most in your spare time?

I like to watch movies, listen to music and read books.

Nawel Nedjari The Force Behind Alger Fashion Week

Nawel Nedjari The Force Behind Alger Fashion Week

Lyon-born Nawel Nedjari is the founder of Alger Fashion Week and Fashion Week Tour, a package trip devoted to fashion in Paris and the French Riviera, and Algerian fashion shows in Paris. Having studied fashion design, she also founded her own fashion brand BERRIN.

Nawel Nedjari

24Fashion TV: Did you always want to be in the Fashion Industry?

Nawel Nedjari: Since I was very young, I have always been crazy about fashion. My mom is a fashion designer, and she used to buy fashion magazine with pictures of DIOR, BALMAIN and GIVENCHY. I wish I would have kept these magazines now, its vintage!

How did you start Alger Fashion Week?

After creating Fashion Week Tour, and bringing American, Chinese and Middle East clients to Paris, my mom Rachida convinced me to launch something about the Algerian traditional clothes, and I did it by launching first the Facebook page in 2011, now followed by more than 30 000 fans all over the world. Then my first annual fashion week event was launched in 2016 in my hometown Lyon. And the first edition was very successful. Sadly, we even had to refuse some people because the event was sold out.

24Fashion TV ALGERFASHIONWEEK Paris Paris 1621553881 jpeg

Why did you decide to start Alger Fashion Week?

I decided to start Alger Fashion Week because no one did it in Alger, and Im still fighting today to launch it in its capital, since we need more support from the Algerian government. There is not enough help from it. The Algerian culture needs to be promoted everywhere. Actually there is an Algerian traditional wedding dress protected at UNESCO, named Chedda of Tlemcen. And I am very proud of it!

Was it hard to start?

Starting Alger Fashion Week in Paris was easy since I was already living there and knew many photographers and models. The location was Normandy Hotel a classical glamorous Parisian venue. So I was happy to mix Algerian culture with Paris, especially because there is a big Algerian community in France.

24Fashion TV ALGERFASHIONWEE ParisFashionWeek 1621553898 jpeg

What style is most popular in Algeria for casual/evening and business attire for men and women?

Today, Algerians wear daily like occidentals, but when it comes to wedding or special events, you can wear traditional. The modern thing is to mix both by wearing a traditional KARAKO jacket with a denim and stilettos, for a wedding, a party or going to a fashion show.

In what countries do Alger Fashion Week take place, why did you choose them?

Alger Fashion Week takes place in Paris, but the goal is to launch it in the capital of Alger with the patronage of the ministry of culture I hope. I chose Paris because I was living there.

506 24Fashion TV ALGERFASHIONWEEK ParisFashionWeek 1621554934 jpeg

Do Alger men follow fashion?

Yes of course there are a lot of men following Fashion and most of the time the designers are men! SAMIR KERZABI, KARIM AKROUF and KARIM KADID are famous fashion designers in Algeria and have promoted their collection abroad.

We noticed most dresses are exquisite and hand made! How do you choose designers for Alger Fashion Week?

24Fashion TV ALGERFASHIONWEEK Paris ParisFashionWeek 1621553978 jpeg

I first look at their collections. It's the first thing I do, if its modern and innovative. If the designers are able to provide stocks of the collection in order to sell it to clients. Its very important and essential, during the show, clients are sitting and willing to buy !

What would you like to see happen for Alger Fashion Week?

I want Alger Fashion Week to be bigger by having a new location for the event. I want Alger Fashion Week to be organized in the USA and Canada too. And finally, who I wish to see at one of my events is Anna Wintour of course!!

Chrissy Teigen Apologizes To Courtney Stodden For Harassing Her As A Minor, Wishing For Her Death

Chrissy Teigen Apologizes To Courtney Stodden For Harassing Her As A Minor, Wishing For Her Death

Chrissy Teigen apologized Wednesday for repeatedly sending nasty messages to a then-16-year-old Courtney Stodden. Stodden, 26, opened up to The Daily Beast this week about how numerous celebrities have hurled harsh comments her way over the years, including Teigen.

In 2016, Stodden’s mother approved the then teens marriage to a 50-year-old actor and during this time, Teigen apparently harassed Stodden and even sent her death threats via Twitter direct messages.

[Teigen] wouldnt just publicly tweet about wanting me to take a dirt nap but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself, Stodden told The Daily Beast. Things like, I cant wait for you to die.

As reported by The Daily Beast, Teigen told Stodden it was her fantasy for the teen to take a dirt nap. and also encouraged the minor to kill herself via private messages, Stodden said. The messages have been since deleted.

In a Twitter post, Teigan wrote:

Not a lot of people are lucky enough to be held accountable for all their past bullshit in front of the entire world. Im mortified and sad at who I used to be. I was an insecure, attention-seeking troll,

Teigen started her apology Twitter thread:

I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior but that is nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel.

I have worked so hard to give you guys joy and be beloved and the feeling of letting you down is nearly unbearable, truly. These were not my only mistakes and surely wont be my last as hard as I try but god I will try!!

Apparently, because the deleted posts from Teigen have resurfaced, she is now ready to publicly apologizing but according to Stodden, Teigen has never apologized for her behavior, even as she continuously complains about online trolls.

The Daily Beast posted screenshots of Teigens now-deleted vile messages to the teen:

@CourtneyStodden My Friday fantasy: you. dirt nap. mmmmmm baby.

Retweeting Stodden, Teigen posted: Go. to sleep. forever.

@CourtneyStodden what drug makes you do that with your mouth? asking for a friend who really wants to look like an idiot. thanks.

@CourtneyStodden do you have a family.

@CourtneyStodden I hate you.

Retweeting Stodden, Teigen posted: Why do you speak like a Fabio book?

Teigan announced that she was leaving Twitter in March.
