~From Welcoming Renowned Aquanaut Fabien Cousteau to Celebrating Women Divers, A Look Inside the Caribbean All-Inclusive Resort Company’s Initiatives to Empower Ecosystems Below the Surface~
MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica, June 7, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — A launching pad for underwater exploration, conservation and now research, Sandals Resorts International (SRI) honors the ecosystems that surround and sustain the nine islands it calls home, welcoming World Oceans Day with ocean preservation updates in the Caribbean.
Follow aquanaut Fabien Cousteau, his team of scientists and Sandals’ PADI-certified watersports team on an adventure below the surface to collect data for the development of the “International Space Station of the Ocean” – PROTEUS – the world’s most advanced, multi-purpose underwater habitat. Located just a few nautical miles from the potential site, Sandals Royal Curaçao recently hosted the visit in support of this project designed to drive innovation in ocean research and conservation.
Renowned aquanaut Fabien Cousteau and Sandals’ Corporate Director of Watersports, Michael Clarke, at Sandals Royal Curaçao following an exploratory dive to collect data for the advancement of PROTEUS – a multi-purpose underwater habitat to be developed a few nautical miles from the resort’s location on Curaçao.
Pictured here, the winners of the Future Goals: Art Challenge, which brought together 180 children in Curaçao for a friendly competition raising awareness on ocean conservation; the event celebrated the second year of the Future Goals program which repurposes plastic waste and fishing nets lost at sea into colorful soccer goals for school children with a curriculum on sustainability and life skills.
